A PSA nitrogen generator, short for Pressure Swing Adsorption nitrogen generator, is a device that produces nitrogen by leveraging the differential adsorption properties of adsorbents (typically molecular sieves ) under different pressures.

Pressure Swing Adsorption nitrogen generatorIt is mainly composed of an air compressor , a pretreatment system (including filters, dryers, etc.), adsorption towers filled with molecular sieves, and a control system.

Its working principle is that molecular sieves adsorb oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor more easily than nitrogen under high pressure; when compressed air enters the adsorption tower, nitrogen is enriched and collected, and when the pressure drops, the adsorbed substances are desorbed to regenerate the molecular sieves.

PSA nitrogen generators are favored for their advantages like simple operation, rapid startup, adjustable high nitrogen purity, and energy efficiency, and are widely used in fields such as food packaging (for freshness preservation), electronics manufacturing (for inert gas protection), the chemical industry (for reaction environments), and metallurgy.

In PSA nitrogen generation systems, the role of filters is to ensure the cleanliness of pre-compressed air. To achieve air filtration, the requirements for filters are actually quite high, and not just any filter can meet them.

According to the grades of filters, they can be classified into pre-filters, primary filters , precision filters , and activated carbon filters .

Pressure Swing Adsorption nitrogen generatorDifferent grades of filters vary in the diameter of the particles they can filter and their applicable scenarios. A pre-filter refers to a filter that can remove particles with a diameter of 3~5μm. A primary filter is a filter that can remove particles with a diameter of 0.5~1μm and oil mist with a content of 1ppm w/w (parts per million by weight). A precision filter can remove particles with a diameter of 0.01μm and oil mist with a content of 0.01ppm w/w. An activated carbon filter is used to remove odors and oil vapor, with the oil mist content being only 0.003ppm w/w.

In terms of application scenarios, pre-filters are suitable for occasions where the requirement for filtered particles is not high. Primary filters are mostly used for filtering motors and cylinder equipment . Precision filters are used in scenarios such as painting and electronic component manufacturing . The filters used in PSA nitrogen generation systems also fall into this grade. Activated carbon filters are used in food and pharmaceutical production , breathing air , gas processing , and other aspects.
