Product Introduction

 

Shell and tube coolers, also known as tubular coolers, are divided into tube side and shell side. The flow path of the liquid inside the tubes is called the tube side, while the flow path of the liquid outside the tubes is the shell side. The wall surface of the tube bundle serves as the heat transfer surface. When the temperature difference between the tube bundle and the shell exceeds 50°C, appropriate temperature compensation measures should be taken to eliminate or reduce thermal stress. These coolers are generally water-cooled and hold a dominant position in relevant applications.

 

Working Principle

 

The working principle of a shell-and-tube cooler is based on heat conduction and convective heat transfer.

The fluid to be cooled (such as lubricating oil or refrigerant from a screw compressor) flows inside the tube bundle, while the cooling medium (usually water or air) flows outside the tubes within the shell.

Through heat conduction across the tube walls, thermal energy transfers from the high-temperature fluid to the low-temperature cooling medium, thereby achieving fluid cooling.

Baffles are installed to direct the cooling medium along a tortuous path within the shell, increasing both the contact area and residence time between the cooling medium and the tube bundle, thus enhancing heat exchange efficiency.
