In daily life, many people are not familiar with certain types of machinery, such as plate heat exchangers. As a general-purpose heat exchange device, plate heat exchangers are widely used due to their unique advantages. They can meet the process requirements of cooling, heating, condensation, concentration, disinfection, and waste heat recovery for various media. Let's learn more about them below.
I. Installation Requirements
The heat exchanger shall not be deformed, and fasteners shall not be loose or have other mechanical damages.
During the hoisting of the equipment, the hoisting ropes must not be hung on the nozzles, positioning beams, or plates.
Sufficient space shall be reserved around the heat exchanger to facilitate maintenance and inspection.
The inlet and outlet pipes for hot and cold media shall be installed in accordance with the direction specified on the factory nameplate.
The pipes connected to the heat exchanger shall be flushed to prevent impurities such as sand, gravel, and welding slag from entering the heat exchanger and causing blockage.
II. Advantages and Disadvantages of Plate Heat Exchangers
1. Advantages
(1) Compact structure with a large heat exchange area per unit volume.
(2) Strong adaptability: the required heat exchange area can be achieved by increasing or decreasing the number of plates.
(3) Low heat loss.
(4) Due to the small plate gap (2–8 mm), the material can pass through in a thin, fast layer, enabling precise control of the heat exchange temperature.
2. Disadvantages
(1) Due to structural limitations, rubber gaskets must be used. The sealing perimeter is long, making it difficult to achieve effective sealing.
(2) Low pressure-bearing capacity (not exceeding 2 MPa), and the operating temperature (not exceeding 180°C) is limited by the temperature resistance of the gaskets.
(3) Small pipe diameter, which is prone to blockage.
(4) High fluid resistance, resulting in a generally small processing capacity.
The above content covers the installation requirements, advantages, and disadvantages of plate heat exchangers. It is hoped that the information provided will be helpful to you.
